After the successful charity donation collection of food, toys and clothes from across the year groups, some of our Year 11 Senior Student Leaders were able to take these donations to local charities. These charities were Aston and Nechells Food Bank and Upcycle Birmingham in Castle Vale. This was a great experience for our Student Leaders to see the positive impact of their charity work so far this year.

At the end of last half-term, 14 Year 10 and Year 11 students who have represented the Hodge Hill football teams were able to visit the “Home of Football” St George’s Park. This is where all national-level England players train including the International Men’s and Women’s Teams. They were taken on a tour where they saw an exact replica of the Wembley football (this includes the length of each blade of grass!) and other areas where the England teams train such as the “Boot Room.” It was here that our students laced up their boots just like Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling for their 90-minute coaching session with UEFA-qualified coaches. This session challenged our students to create goal-scoring opportunities while continually scanning the pitch to make the best decision. All the students thoroughly enjoyed the session with many commenting how hard they had to work but relished the opportunity to showcase their skill level and meet the challenge set to them. The students finished with a penalty shootout to see who could score the best penalty!
