Admissions

Headteacher: Mrs Hannah Herrmann

Hodge Hill College is a popular and welcoming 11-16 community school in East Birmingham that provides its pupils with a first-class education and amazing life experiences. The school serves a rich and diverse area with pupils coming from 34 different feeder schools.

Currently, in September 2024, we have 1212 pupils on roll.

How to Make an In-Year Application

Hodge Hill College is currently full in all year groups with a waiting list in operation. If you wish to apply to join the school during the academic year (in-year admissions), you will need to complete an Application for a Change of School (In-Year). This can be found in the document section below.

Please return this form to the School Office with a copy of ID for your child (e.g. passport, birth certificate) and proof of your home address. Acceptable proof of address includes:

  • 2024/25 council tax bill.
  • A copy of a recent utility bill (gas, water, electricity) dated within the last six months. Please note bills must confirm actual charges, estimated bills will not be accepted.
  • A signed and dated 12-month tenancy agreement from either Birmingham City Council or known Birmingham Housing Association and the commencement date.  Tenancy agreements from private lettings will not be accepted.
  • A solicitor’s letter confirming contracts have been exchanged and specifying a completion date and the new address. A memorandum of sale will not be accepted.

Once the eligibility criteria has been assessed (see “selection/over-subscription criteria for Birmingham Community Schools” section below), your child will join the waiting list and the school will contact you if/when a place becomes available.

Please note that the waiting list is maintained until the end of each academic year. If you still require a place for the following academic year, you will have to reapply for the new waiting list that will open in September for 2025/26.

How to Apply for Year 7 in September 2025

An application must be made online at www.birmingham.gov.uk/schooladmissions or by using a Local Authority Preference Form.

Selection/Over-subscription Criteria for Birmingham Community Schools

Children are admitted to schools in accordance with parental preference as far as possible. However, when a school receives more applications than it has places available, over-subscription criteria are used to decide who will be offered a place and the ranking of the waiting list. For all community schools in Birmingham, Birmingham Local Authority is the admission authority and has set its over-subscription criteria. When a community school receives more applications than it has places available, the places at that school will be offered based on the following order of priority:

  1. Looked After Children (in public care)
  2. Where the child has a brother or sister currently attending the school
  3. Distance (children who live nearest the school)

Within each of these categories, priority is given to those who live nearest the school, calculated on the basis of a straight-line measurement between the child’s home address and the school. This is usually measured to the centre point of the school.
